Jamstix has the unique (AFIK) trait that it will respond to playing dynamics of audio or midi input. As far as I know, it's the only thing of it's kind, and pretty cool at what it does, but maybe not the end of the road, and potentially more a distraction than a solution. I will echo and expand on richie43's thoughts on Jamstix. Many people love it, but after owning it for almost 3 years and spending many hours learning it, I still prefer the parts I get with AD. Jamstix is a completely different animal.

But in my opinion, if you are using AD and like what you hear even with no humanizing, don't sweat it too much, the end product of the software is midi, but the midi is translated from real players. Just use your ears and do whatever sounds best to you. If you zoom in closely you will even see some of the midi 'notes' spanning a grid line, even with a very tight grid setting. And often the parts will get ahead of nd behind the click. If you own the 'Sloppy Grooves' library from them, you will hear just that, sloppy drum grooves. To my understanding, the midi is a direct translation from parts played by real people, not parts created using a mouse or keyboard. When I first started working with AD, I was in pretty frequent contact with the devs (who always answered my questions promptly and personally), and they went to great lengths to explain how they make their mid paks. Out of all of the other 'normal' drum software (Jamstix is in the 'not-normal' category!!), Addictive Drums is the only one that if I build a song using pre-made midi parts, I can (if I want to or am in a hurry) get by without any hand-editing of midi data nad without applying any 'humanizing' from Reaper.

I won't claim to be right about any of it, but I feel comfortable sharing my thoughts on your questions. I have demo-ed many drum vsti's, own Addictive Drums and Jamstix, so I have developed my own opinions on this topic.

I'd rather have some sort of effect, or adjustable knob/settings that don't alter the notes as they sit on the midi grid. In the case where you've decided you need to humanize AD or another percussion VSTi/sample, what is your weapon of choice? I don't like the idea of directly humanizing the midi notes so much, because it seems. I'm experimenting with Addictive Drums and although it sounds pretty realistic, I can't tell if the actual timing is humanized or not.Дo you guys leave your percussion straight on the grid (aside from swing here or extra special stuff) for Addictive Drums, or does it require humanizing?

I'm wondering if any of you have a plan or plugin you use to try and humanize your percussion MIDI.
